Froggie Went A-Courtin'
Traditional
This is an American variant of the English folk song, "The Wedding Of the Frog and the Mouse" which dates back about 400 years to the Elizabethan era.
lyrics
Froggie went a-courtin’ and he did ride...Uh huh, uh huh
Froggie went a-courtin’ and he did ride, Uh huh, uh huh
Froggie went a-courtin’ and he did ride
With a sword and a pistol by his side
Uh huh, uh huh, uh huh
He rode right up to Miss Mousie’s door...Uh huh, uh huh
He rode right up to Miss Mousie’s door...Uh huh, uh huh
He rode right up to Miss Mousie’s door
Where he had been many times before
Uh huh, uh huh, uh huh
He took Miss Mousie upon his knee...Uh huh, uh huh
He took Miss Mousie upon his knee...Uh huh, uh huh
He took Miss Mousie upon his knee
And he said, “Miss Mousie will you marry me”
Uh huh, uh huh, uh huh
Without my Uncle Rat’s consent...Uh huh, uh huh
Without my Uncle Rat’s consent...Uh huh, uh huh
Without my Uncle Rat’s consent
I wouldn’t marry the president
Uh huh, uh huh, uh huh
Uncle Rat laughed and shook his fat sides...Uh huh, uh huh
Uncle Rat laughed and shook his fat sides...Uh huh, uh huh
Uncle Rat laughed and shook his fat sides
To think his niece would be a bride
Uh huh, uh huh, uh huh
Where will the wedding supper be?...Uh huh, uh huh
Where will the wedding supper be?...Uh huh, uh huh
Where will the wedding supper be?
Way down yonder in a hollow tree
Uh huh, uh huh, uh huh
What will the wedding supper be?...Uh huh, uh huh
What will the wedding supper be?...Uh huh, uh huh
What will the wedding supper be?
Two green beans and a black-eyed pea
Uh huh, uh huh, uh huh
They all sailed off across the lake...Uh huh, uh huh
They all sailed off across the lake...Uh huh, uh huh
They all sailed off across the lake
But got swallowed up by a big black snake
Uh huh, uh huh, uh huh
There’s bread and cheese upon the shelf...Uh huh, uh huh
There’s bread and cheese upon the shelf...Uh huh, uh huh
There’s bread and cheese upon the shelf
If you want any more you can sing it yourself
Uh huh, uh huh, uh huh
